IT Cooling & Heat Rejection
Data centers remove heat in two stages: first from the servers (IT cooling), then from the building to the outdoors (heat rejection). The methods chosen drive water use, energy overhead, and neighborhood noise.
Water Source & Demand
Data centers use water mainly for evaporative cooling and humidification. The source, quality, and use of reclaimed water determine the impact on local supply and aquatic systems.
Wastewater Discharge
Water leaving the site is treated on-site, sent to a municipal plant, discharged directly, or evaporated. Zero-liquid-discharge (ZLD) systems eliminate liquid discharge entirely.
Electric Provider & Interconnection
A data center is among the largest electric loads a utility can serve. Demand is measured in megawatts; PUE relates total facility power to IT power (1.0 means all power reaches the IT equipment).
Renewable Energy Claims
Renewable claims describe how a facility matches its consumption with clean generation. The geography and matching method determine whether the claim reflects new, local clean energy or paper certificates.
